February 5th is Primrose Day.
The red primrose is dedicated to St. Agatha, a virgin martyr, and patroness of Malta. February 5th is also her feast day.
According to legend, she rejected the advances of a Roman prefect. He persecuted her for her Christian faith. She was imprisoned and tortured, and then sentenced to death by being burned at the stake. However, due to an earthquake, this did not happen and she died in prison.
Agatha’s patronage includes bell-founders, breast cancer, breast disease, against fire, earthquakes, eruptions of Mount Etna, fire, fire prevention, jewelers, martyrs, natural disasters, nurses, rape victims, sterility, and torture victims.
There is a different Primrose Day on April 19th.
