Traditionally held the last weekend before classes end, Dandelion Day, colloquially known as D-Day, was founded in 1951 by the Chairman of Traditions at the University of Rochester. It was established to provide an annual respite around final exams. It has evolved over the year from simple field activities to a carnival.
The dandelion is the University of Rochester’s official emblem, and “dandelion yellow” is the school color.
