The word opal comes from the Latin word opalus meaning seeing jewel. Opals are found in ancient geothermal hot springs. Opals may be white, clear, pale red or black; they emit a variety of colored light. Opal has the ability to refract and reflect specific wavelengths of light and from this we get the term “opalescence”.
Opal is the traditional and ayurvedic birthstone for October and the mystical birthstone for April.
