Beggar’s Day is celebrated in the Netherlands on November 11th. It coincides with Martinmas, the feast of Saint Martin. Many towns build bonfires that children dance around. The children visit neighbors singing for candies and treats while carrying lanterns made from hollowed-out sugar beets and turnips.
