The Feast of Excited Insects, known as Ching Che, announces the arrival of spring. The insects awake from their winter hibernation on or close to March 5th.
According to legend, the Lordly Dragon raises its head this day waking all the insects from their slumber. Offerings of millet meal and bean cake are laid under a tree as offerings. Sometimes decorations are put out to calm the more excited bugs. Framers begin to prepare their fields for planting new crops.
In Korea this day is known as Kyongchip.
