Parfait

Layered American parfaits in Osaka, Japan

November 25th is National Parfait Day. A parfait, French for perfect, is a frozen dessert that has been around since 1894. It is a layered dessert served in a tall, clear container.

French Parfait VS American Parfait

The French parfait is usually a layer dessert, but can also be savory. They are layered and have a creamy texture. The American version is a dessert typically consisting of layers of ice cream, yogurt, or Jell-o with fruits, nuts, granola, and whipped cream.

American Parfait VS Sundae

A sundae always features ice cream at the base then topped with syrups, fruits, and toppings. A parfait is always layered.

Try this seasonal Autum Apple Parfait:
vanilla yogurt mixed with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
mix of chopped red and green apples, tossed in acidulated water
caramel sauce
vanilla yogurt mixed with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste
granola

Layer ingredients in a tall glass – twice.
