Serve with prickly pear jelly.
makes around 20

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 green onion, dice finely both white and green portions
1/2 cup cilantro, dice fine finely
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1 cup cold milk or water
2 teaspoons honey
oil for frying

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
Add onion, cilantro, and spices.
Make a well in the center and add the cold milk and the honey.
Stir dough well until all ingredients are blended; dough will be sticky.
Heat 1 inch of oil in a frying pan.
Carefully drop dough using by generous tablespoonfuls into the hot oil.
Fry 2-3 at a time.
Turn frequently so all surfaces turn a light golden color; fry quickly.
Drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately.
